Why I Love Working in Advertising

I never had a great dream of becoming a writer or a comic book artist. I had the dream of being happy doing what I like most — learning, thinking and making others think and thus, act.

Early Life

I started talking at a very young age, sooner than most kids. My mother loves to tell me about the endless stream of words I made her endure from early on. For example while argumenting at an enormous speed about why she should allow me to stay up as late as my older brother. She had to endure it the full time until it was bedtime for my brother as well. Put that way, it seems as if most children start selling very soon in their life.

I’ve always been unhealthily curious (I once almost hung myself to find out how gallows work — stupid idea.) I grew up with a lot of kids from foreign countries. Soon I started to wonder what they would have to talk about, since some of them didn’t speak my language. So I started learning tidbits in English, Vietnamese, Japanese, French, Russian and Italian. Nowadays I almost forgot everything about most of these languages so I stick to German (my mothertongue), English and Italian. I enjoyed communicating and I enjoy it now just as much.

As I became older I realized that working at McDonald’s or H&M isn’t particularly what I had in mind for the rest of my life. Also I couldn’t bare teachers anymore, who apparently loved telling me that there’s only one right way to do certain important tasks like calculating why X is not Y while failing to explain why it even matters. I used to argue with them — a lot. Later I figured that some of them didn’t want to think about the deeper sense of the school system anymore. They just wanted to do their job in their best way possible. You can’t sell to someone who doesn’t want to buy.

First steps in the world of labour

More or less brief visits to psychology and NLP studies not only helped me get a better understanding about who I am and who I wanted to be, they also continue to be beloved topics I like to wrap my head around.

So after some months of taking pictures of drunk people in night clubs, I started…
